Uncommon James Home Intrigues Me

Sticking to my dedication week to Laguna Beach and The Hills and the people that inspired me to realise my teen ambition. Of course, Lauren Conrad, Kristin Cavallari and Whitney Port were not the people who actually inspired me to start a lifestyle business (that was the Olsen Twins), but their growing businesses and brands did became my inspiration as well especially when I started planning the direction of where I want to be if I had my own business.

Since the launch of Uncommon James, I must say the jewelry line is a tad too simple for my liking and the price is not as reasonable as I would prefer. But that could be maybe because I do reside in a small country far from the US - Malaysia. Let's also face facts here. Her strong brand and popularity also contributes to how she could dictate the profit she makes with the jewelry so basically, her consumers mostly paid for her name and not just the products. And she's not the only public figure who does it - almost everyone who is a public figure i.e. celebrities alike who has their own businesses, practice the same strategy, but we get to that on another day.

What's more important here is not Kristin Cavallari's Uncommon James jewelry line but her home goods. Being an avid fan of hers, I was intrigued but not so surprised when the announcement for home goods was coming. Aside from being known for her TV personality, her fashion and her beautiful smile, she makes sure people knows that she knows her way around the kitchen. She's not just some spoilt rich kid living in Laguna where they have personal chefs and caterers. So yeah, when the announcement came out, I was highly curious what she will sell and what will be her home goods concept and I have to say I was very impressed when it finally launched.

UJ Home delivers not only home goods and decorations but is also known to have some of its products to be hand-made. Of course a lot of the stuffs that I know are hand-made are no longer up for sale, but I do like the idea of making kitchen utensils not only personal to the consumers but also personal to her own identity. Of course, we don't know how far this fact is but I have to give it to Kristin for producing her home goods to be personal to her.

Moving on, UJ Home also sells home decorations like cushions and the ever so famous, candles. I have to say that this move does seem familiar with Lauren Conrad's The Little Market's candle-selling strategy but one can only argue so far because for anyone who loves and appreciates home decor would know that candles are important. But what makes UJ Home candles different. No it isn't but it is the complementary product that can be found for sale (or used to) like the candle wick cutter. Most recently, anyone who came across the website under the candle category will be able to find a subscription option which offers monthly supplies of their chosen candles which offers a discount depending on which subscription offer chosen. This is truly a smart business move because instead of wondering when the next visit to the store or having to just find the timing to shop online for the candle, you know very well that it will be knocking on your doorstep soon.

Kristin Cavallari has come a long way since her appearance as the Laguna Beach teen protagonist. Even though she was not my favourite person on both Laguna Beach and The Hills, she gets the credit where credits is due and that is she does have a tasteful style and an appealing personality complementing her beautiful smile. Truly, she really has a beautiful smile. On top of Uncommon James and UJ Home as per what I have blogged about her before, she also runs Little James and recently launched UJ Beauty. I will probably be covering a blog post about the new Uncommon James Beauty but I got to take a look at what is on sale first and if is it favourable enough to the consumer both those who follow her and those who doesn't. It truly impresses me how the people from MTV's scripted reality TV shows are truly more than who they appear to be on-screen and I am glad that I choose to follow their journey outside of the show. More of KC will be covered soon.
